Your YNAB cash flow, forecast week by week

Your tightest week, flagged before it arrives

Three weeks of a sample Moneylight forecast, drawn the way the app draws it: a line across the weeks' ending balances, over a dashed zero line. This week ends at $1,090.00, the week of Jun 28 falls below zero to minus $802.30 and is flagged as the tight week, and the week of Jul 5 recovers to $655.00. Sample data. Tight week · Jun 28 Today $1,090.00 Jun 28 −$802.30 Jul 5 $655.00

Moneylight reads your YNAB Plan and rolls it forward: paychecks in, bills out, week by week. Every week ahead gets an ending balance, from the accounts you pick, kept current.

The trial runs 14 days, no card. Or see the math worked out first.

Works with YNAB (opens in a new tab)

Nothing in your YNAB Plan can be changed by Moneylight. It connects using YNAB's official read-only scope, so it cannot change your Plan, add or edit a transaction, or write anything back.

It's the spreadsheet you already rebuild every payday

If you budget in YNAB, you've done this math by hand: take what's there, add the paychecks, subtract what's due, then knock off what's on the cards. Moneylight does it for every week of your forecast, from the accounts you pick, and keeps it current.

Sample data, shown to the cent so you can follow the arithmetic. Each week starts from the one before it: Cash in your accounts carries forward, and the card balance is subtracted after.

The tight week, worked out longhand

The week after it is the one that recovers. Here is that recovery, line by line, from the third card above. Nothing is rounded and nothing is hidden: this is the same arithmetic Moneylight runs for every week of your forecast, up to two years ahead.

Starting funds is the previous week's cash in your accounts, not its ending balance, because the card balance is one running total rather than a weekly charge.

Jul 5 – Jul 11, from the forecast above

Starting funds last week's cash, carried in, still short −$686.85
Paychecks on their real pay dates +$1,654.60
Bills due on their real due dates −$90.00
Necessities groceries, gas, the weekly burn −$107.30
Cash in your accounts before the cards are covered $770.45
CC Balance one current balance, pending charges included, the same every week −$115.45
Ending balance what's actually yours, that week and every week after $655.00

Doesn't YNAB already do this with scheduled transactions?

Not quite. YNAB's scheduled transactions and running balance show the next occurrence of each bill, and only the next one. Everything after it stays hidden until the one before it posts.

Moneylight projects every occurrence of every paycheck and bill, up to two years ahead, then flags the week where you dip lowest. YNAB settles what every dollar is for. Moneylight shows you when each one leaves.

Disconnect whenever you like. One button on your account page. Your YNAB Plan is exactly as you left it, because Moneylight never wrote to it in the first place.

The guide walks through setup, and which pay and bill cadences Moneylight handles.

Questions about your data and your bill.

Your data

Can Moneylight change my YNAB budget?
No. Moneylight connects using YNAB's read-only scope, so it can only read your Plan. It cannot change a budgeted amount, add or edit a transaction, or write anything back to YNAB.
How do I disconnect Moneylight from YNAB?
Open Account, then Disconnect YNAB. That deletes the access tokens Moneylight stores, so it can no longer read your data. Your bills, paychecks, and settings are kept, so reconnecting later picks up where you left off. To also remove Moneylight from your YNAB authorized apps, manage them in your YNAB account settings.

The free trial

Is there a free trial?
Yes. Your first 14 days are free, and no card is required to start.
What happens when my trial ends?
When your trial ends without a card on file, an invoice is created and your access pauses until it is paid. Your subscription is not canceled, so paying that invoice picks you right back up, and your Plans, bills, and settings are untouched.
What if I have already used my free trial?
The 14-day trial runs once per account. If you have already used yours, subscribing starts your plan and bills you right away.

Billing

How much does Moneylight cost?
$1.99 a month, or $19.99 a year (about two months free).
Is there a one-time option?
Lifetime Access is a one-time payment of $49.99 that gives you permanent access to Moneylight, including all future updates. There are no subscriptions, renewals, or recurring charges. It’s limited to 100 licenses and ends when all are claimed or on December 31, 2026, whichever comes first.
How do I cancel?
Open Account, then Manage Subscription, which takes you to the secure billing portal. Cancel any time, and your access runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
Do you store my card details?
No. Payments run through Stripe, and Moneylight never sees or stores your card number.
What will the charge look like on my statement?
It shows as Sage Canyon Labs, the company behind Moneylight, rather than the word Moneylight. Sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.
Do you have a referral program?
Yes. Share your personal link or code from your account. When a friend you refer becomes a paying subscriber, you get a free month, applied automatically as a credit toward your next invoice, up to 12 free months a year.

Fourteen days, no card.
